KS3 courses are the building blocks designed to prepare your child to begin studying for GCSE, which is examined.

With no exams to worry about your child can take as much or as little time as they need to assimilate the basic principals in KS3. This can be when gifted children become bored and troublesome if they find it all too slow and easy while others may be put off learning if they have not had time to grasp the early stages of a subject. Oxford Home Schooling has the flexibility to cope with both of these extremes and everyone in between.

The number of subjects is not regulated and as a home educator, you are not obliged to follow the national curriculum, although it is wise to be aware of it.  You are however required to provide and demonstrate full-time education for your child and this is typically considered to be 25 hours a week.  KS3 academic courses should form part of the educational mix, but many other activities are also valid and parents can cater to an individual child’s enthusiasms much better than a school.

Typically we strongly recommend that students study the English, Maths and Science courses as these will be required GCSE subjects and then it is your choice of any additional subjects depending on interests.

We cannot take on students who are under the age of 11??? but after this you can enrol and start any time you like. You are not tied to a standard academic year (September to July) when you home educate, but when ever you do decide to start we will offer you a full year of tuition and support.

Once you have enrolled, you will get access to your course online immediately and your printed course materials will arrive a few days later.

If you are not sure, then KS3 is so flexible that you have time to try out one or two courses before committing to more.

This is a crucial question for all home schooling organisations and you should look into what everyone is offering very carefully, in the world of on-line education not all is at it seems, or as parents can sometimes be led to assume.

We are totally upfront about this, we do not have online classrooms and we do not claim that your child will be taught their lessons by a tutor either remotely or otherwise. If actual individual tuition by a tutor is what you want then you will be looking at another realm of expense.

What we provide is totally individual to your child because it is delivered at home by you, but within a structured framework of lessons covering each year of the KS3 curriculum. These lessons are written with the aim of being understandable for a child or the parent/guardian who is helping that child to study.  In addition each student is given their own tutor who is there to help throughout the study period. our tutors are all qualified teachers and you are free to email them for advice and to arrange your own call times with them when you need to speak. The tutor does not teach every individual lesson but they are always there to explain issues that you or your child may not understand and to mark to homework that is set throughout the course.

It should be obvious by now that if you sign up to one of our courses you will need to put in time and effort, we do not believe that educating a youngster can be given over to a lap top and a remote teacher. With OHS you will probably be learning as much as your child and it is amazing how many people tell us how enjoyable an experience it is!
